ActivGardens is launching a new learning and skills programme at the People’s Community Garden, Maidenhall Allotments, Halifax Road, Ipswich IP2 8RE to inspire young people and help move them on to the world of work.
Charities from Suffolk are appealing for the support of businesses across the county, in helping elderly and vulnerable people stay connected with crucial lifelines during the pandemic.
The announcement has recently been made, by Special Olympics GB, that the National Summer Games, which were due to be held in Liverpool in August 2021, have been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A coronavirus test and trace system has been launched to help test those who have symptoms quickly, and to trace people they have been in close contact with.
However fraudsters are likely to use this as an opportunity to scam people, by either trying to obtain personal information, or to dupe them into handing over money.
As with many Charities, social enterprises and community groups the Coronavirus lock-down has had a real impact both financially and the way that services are delivered to support people in the community, who are vulnerable and at risk. During the lockdown this is really important as vulnerable people are feeling even lonelier and cut off from family, friends and neighbours.

Running 30 miles for ActivLives!
ActivLives is delighted to announce that they have received funding from Suffolk Community Foundation for a new carers project in Ipswich.
Our stalls will be bursting with freshly picked fruit, vegetables and plants grown at our community gardens as part of our produce market on Friday 11th October 2019, at the CRESS Pavilion, Halifax Road, Ipswich IP2 8RE, from 10am to 12.30pm.

The People’s Community Garden has been named Groundwork’s community garden or greenspace winner at the inaugural Groundwork Community Awards, a ceremony designed to recognise and celebrate the work of local community heroes.

Goodgym is a community of runners that combine getting fit with doing good. We stop off on our runs to do physical tasks for community organisations and to support isolated older people with social visits and one-off tasks they can’t do on their own. It’s a great way to get fit, meet new people and do some good. As long as you’re up for getting sweaty, everyone’s welcome.

ActivLives is inviting spectators to come and join them at a rather unusual fundraising event to cheer on the 25 plus Divers, who are coming together on Saturday 18th June, at the Crown Pools between 5pm – 8pm to swim the distance of the English Channel underwater.
The funding boost from Postcode Local Trust will enable ActivLives People’s Community Garden to create a wild learning project at ActivLives’ community garden.

ActivLives is inviting people aged 45 plus to come and join them at ‘Support our Hubs’, a celebration event on Tuesday 22nd March in the Council Chamber, Ipswich Town Hall from 11am – 2pm.
Come and meet ActivLives at their new weekly ActivHub opening on Thursday 23rd July at the Ipswich International Church, top of Portman Road, Ipswich, IP1 2HS from 10.00am – 12 noon. Come and join ActivLives at a coffee morning, to find out more about the activity sessions and ‘have a go’ taster session, plus if you are between 40 – 74 years of age you can have a free health check.

Halloween celebrations at the community garden attracted more people than ever before, with local families turning out in the sunshine to enjoy this creative green space, right on their doorstep.
Over 50 people helped ActivLives to celebrate its second AGM
The next get-together for sheltered has been arranged for the 6th November 2014 at Goldcrest Court, from 2-4pm.
Earlier this year, over 7,000 community groups were nominated across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands. 1,400 causes in 350 communities were then shortlisted for the Community Fund award.
Four local causes in every area will be awarded funding depending on the number of votes they receive.
The group with the most votes will get £3,000, the next £2,000, £1,000 and finally, £500.
ActivLives have been short listed for this Community Fund award.
The Big Garden Party was bigger and better than ever before, including the weather. The sun shone constantly on a throng of people, enjoying a huge range of entertainment and activities, on our central theme of bees, bugs and butterflies.
We attended the EoE Well-Being Show on Saturday 7th June at Newmarket Racecourse – here’s a video showing what happened there, and what you missed!
Summer is here and the temperature is rising! Most of us enjoy the warm weather but often we are unaware that we are becoming dehydrated and need to replace the fluids we lose through breathing, sweating and urinating.
More than 300 children got a taste of gardening when they made “cress heads” with ActivGardens at the Suffolk Show.
ActivGardens is celebrating after winning funding from the European Union to offer a second round of free training placements at its two urban garden sites.

As part of the Suffolk Walking Festival and LiveWell Suffolk’s – Stepping out in Suffolk Health walks, ActivLives is organising a special interest walk in Chantry Park on Wednesday 28th May.
ActivLives has been awarded funding by Ipswich Borough Council NW Area Committee to develop a number of ActivHubs in NW Ipswich to help people 45 years and over keep active, healthy and connected with their community.
ActivLives is working in partnership with Laura Worsley, football coach and Ipswich Borough Council NW Area Committee to develop the Walking Football Sessions, which started last year at Whitton Sports Centre on Friday’s at 2pm. Aimed at people 50 plus, this is a great way to take part in a sport, keep fit, have fun and socialise.
We had good news come in this week that we have been chosen to be one of the three charities that Little Waitrose, Cornhill, Ipswich is raising money and awareness for.
