ActivLives Chairman of Trustees
I have spent the last 35 years in the Telecommunications Industry latterly in the provision of Customer Handling, Network Management Systems & Revenue Assurance Solutions in the UK, USA, and France. In the last 10 years with British Telecom I was employed as a Programme Director leading many high-level delivery programmes for the organisation and on many major business development initiatives. I spent 3 years as a serial CEO in the BT Brightstar Incubator initiative. More recently, I have been assisting early start ups focusing on business development. I have mentored a number of businesses following Eastern Enterprise Hub start-up programmes. I am now an ActivLives trustee.
Steve has been working in senior management and consulting positions for the last twenty five years, specialising in Strategy Management, Risk Management, IT System Strategy and Marketing before joining Suffolk University as an Associate Professor at the Business School.
As well as championing several strategic strands as a Trustee Board member with ActivLives, Steve is currently working with a number of start-ups with a view to seeing them expand successfully in order to sustain themselves. It is Steve’s ambition to use his experience and skills and be part of a successful and expanding ActivLives.
After a thirty year career with Suffolk Constabulary, including attachments to The Home Office.
I have continued my career by working in the commercial, education, local authority and voluntary sectors. Gaining a research degree in Master of Education, increased my knowledge and experience in education and evaluation. I have used this to help develop projects and enhance organisations including those in the voluntary sector. With a long standing belief in volunteering and helping people to help themselves, I became involved in the Town & Bridge project at an early stage. From that project I’ve worked with staff, trustees and volunteers to develop and increase the range of services now provided by ActivLives.

Mark qualified as a Certified Accountant in 1986 since when he has worked in the commercial sector covering a wide range of industry sectors from motor, various manufacturing environments, retail, technology, advertising and other service sectors, leisure, the arts, engineering, waste management, charity, injury management processes and agriculture. Most of this experience has been gained with companies ranging from turnover of £1M to £20M and employees of between 10 & 200.
He has extensive experience of managing the change of businesses growing rapidly, acquisition, mergers and MBOs and the planning that goes with those changes. He has implemented systems for numerous companies and is familiar with a wide range of Management Information Systems. He is very experienced in preparing detailed business plans for submission to banks or other finance institutions.
In the past Mark has taken on the role of Operations Director, Sales Director, Managing Director and has also worked in Business Development. He has been involved with raising monies pre-IPO and set up EIS and EMI share schemes. Mark’s current portfolio contains a typically wide range of clients and demonstrates his ability to adapt to very different circumstances. In addition Mark has worked in a voluntary role as Treasurer of Ipswich Sports Club and Treasurer of Suffolk IOD.

As an experienced business strategist and change agent, I have led organisational change and have over thirty years corporate business experience in the IT and Communications sector. I have also been operating as a business and leadership coach for 16 years and delivered personal, one-to-one and executive team development programmes for CEOs and Board Directors. My work is extremely rewarding as I have the privilege of meeting truly exceptional people, in all walks of life. The services provided by AED enable leaders to evolve their business strategy, develop leadership skills, and inspire their people to deliver their business goals. It is a delight to support Julie and the Activlives Trustee Board over the last 6 years in helping them with their passion to evolve their vision, create innovative plans to grow the organisation and continuously increase the value they deliver to the communities they serve.
