This is a very friendly activity session targeted at older, independent adults. It is held in a very comfortable, accessible venue. The group play the two very inclusive sports of New Age Kurling and Boccia. Kurling can be played either standing or seated, Boccia (a Paralympic sport), is always played whilst sitting down. Both are ‘target sports’ and great fun to play. All of the equipment is provided and the session is led by one of our experienced Activity Facilitators.

We do not currently provide refreshments as part of this session, so please bring your own drink/snack, if required.

This session is suitable for participants who use a wheelchair.

Why not join us for a group walk in beautiful Christchurch Park, Ipswich.

The ActivLives Health walks take place every other Monday morning (excluding Bank Holidays)

We meet at the Soane Street entrance, in front of the Mansion, by the park benches. Christchurch Park is very close to the centre of town and the main bus routes. This walk is a great way to meet new people, enjoy the beautiful parkland and boost your mental and physical health. Walking is a great way to improve your health and fitness. Please wear suitable shoes. The walk is about an hour in total, at a gentle pace. We usually divide into two groups, one walking at a slightly quicker pace than the other. The park is undulating – as a result this walk does include some uphill sections. We usually stay on the footpaths throughout, including the beautiful arboretum section of the park. This walk is suitable for wheelchair users. The session is led by experienced volunteers walk leaders.

There is no charge for this walk.

This is an informal session that is non-competitive. Some players bring their own bowls/woods but many use those that we have, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own. The session is led by one of our experienced Facilitators.

This is a very friendly, easy going session. Sadly, we won’t be using the pavilion due to the Covid-19 restrictions (the toilets will be available for use)

We will be running two groups, 10am – 11:20am and 11:30am – 12:50pm, so that we are able to comply with social/physical distancing guidelines.

£4.00 per session – pay on the day.

Local bus route and off-road parking available and please wear flat-soled shoes (trainers are ideal), that will provide some protection for your feet.

This session is aimed at adults of any age who would like to have a go at the great game of badminton. It’s the fastest racket sport in the world but don’t worry, we usually take our time when we play! We start each session with a warm up together as a group, just to loosen up and to prepare for the session. Then we have a go at one or two practices (we are all keen to improve a little, if we can), we then play plenty of games, usually doubles but we do sometimes have a game of singles (very energetic!).

All of the equipment is provided, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own racket. The session is led by a Badminton England Licensed Coach.

We are not a club – but we are a very friendly group who love to play badminton. Beginners, as well as those who haven’t played since their school days, are particularly welcome.

£4.50 per session – please bring your own drink and be changed ready to play as we don’t currently have access to changing facilities.

Come and play this very accessible sport and have fun with a great group of people.

Boccia is a truly inclusive sport, very skilful and very tactical. Played seated, it has been a Paralympic sport since 1984. The game is usually played in two teams, who compete to try to send/throw/kick their balls closer to the target (the jack), than their opponents. It is relatively easy to play, but devilishly tricky to play well!

This session usually consists of a variety of fun warm up activities and skills practices, followed by plenty of games. It is led by one of our experienced Boccia Leaders. Occasionally we play a friendly tournament amongst the group, but no pressure! This facility is fully wheelchair accessible.

No previous boccia or sports experience is required. This session is ideal for anyone with limited physical mobility and/or stability.

£4.00 per session

Local bus route and off-road parking available. Accessible (Disabled) toilet facilities are available.

Walking Football is an adapted version of the game which provides a great way for older independent adults (women and/or men), to keep playing a team sport. This session is played outdoors on the all-weather surface. We play rules similar to 5-a-side but without the running. Players are not permitted to run at any time, with or without the ball. We also play the game without any ‘intentional’ physical contact, so there is limited potential to tackle. Despite all of this, the games are certainly not slow! It provides a challenging and fun work out for most of us!

This session is targeted particularly at players who are 55 years and over and who would not be able (for whatever reason), to play regular small-sided football. The session consists of a group warm up, refereed game(s) and a stretch cool down. It is led by one of our experienced Activity Leaders.

Changing facilities are not currently available for use, so please come changed ready to play. Toilet facilities are available adjacent to the playing area.

£5.00 per session

This is an outdoor session played on the lovely green in Kesgrave (with thanks to Kesgrave Community Centre and Kesgrave Bowls Club).  We are not a club but we are a group of people who really enjoy a friendly, not very serious, game of bowls. This is an informal session that is non-competitive. Some players bring their own bowls/woods but many use those that we have, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own. The session is led by one of our experienced Facilitators.

This is a very friendly, easy going session. Sadly, we won’t be using the pavilion due to the Covid-19 restrictions (the toilets will be available for use)

We will be running two groups, 10am – 11:20am and 11:30am – 12:50pm, so that we are able to comply with social/physical distancing guidelines.

£4.00 per session – pay on the day.

Local bus route and off-road parking available and please wear flat-soled shoes (trainers are ideal), that will provide some protection for your feet.
