ActivGardens Operations Officer
I’m proud to oversee the general running of our gardens, as the Operations Officer for ActivGardens, the vibrant horticultural branch of ActivLives dedicated to cultivating well-being and community connection through gardening.
My experience spans retail and hospitality management, and more recently education supporting SEND students. As an autistic spectrum advocate, I mentor late-diagnosed autistic adults and have designed and delivered a bespoke mentoring programme for autistic students—supporting diagnosis, raising awareness of sensory processing differences, and promoting neurodiversity through training across Suffolk. I also created a gardening nurture programme for teenagers, using horticulture as Ecotherapy to help them grow food, build confidence, and support their mental and physical well-being. I hold an RHS practical horticulture certificate, Ecotherapy certification, a personal licence from the BIIAB, and a degree in Sociology with Youth Studies.
I’ve spent the past four years helping ActivGardens grow—both in terms of plants and people. My role is all about making our gardens safe, welcoming spaces where everyone feels they belong, no matter their background or ability. I’ve developed the community gardens into a safe space where people can relax, learn, and connect, and I have updated the range of plants for sale at our Walled Garden site, turning it into a garden centre type hub for visitors, volunteers, and customers alike.
A big part of my work is supporting and mentoring our beekeeping team, sharing skills and building confidence so they can thrive. I’m especially passionate about working alongside neurodivergent volunteers and participants, making sure the gardens offer a calm, supportive environment where differences are celebrated and people feel understood. Whether it’s coordinating day-to-day activities, creating new projects, or simply having a cuppa with someone who needs a listening ear, I’m here to help our gardens—and the people in them—flourish.
