With the warmer weather now here it is more important to keep up with your hydration. Not drinking enough can cause cramps – painful – and make you more liable to fall. If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated so it is best to drink little and often. Water and squash are the best but tea and coffee help. Always have a bottle of water with you when you leave the house and keep topping it up. You should drink enough so your pee is a pale clear colours.

Eating also contributes to fluid levels and the summer has strawberries, cucumber, lettuce, watermelon to enjoy. Spicy and hot foods have also been shown to help us stay cool by making us sweat more.

Wear loose fitting clothes can help air circulate next to your skin. Think twice before opening all your windows because if the temperature is higher outside than inside you might lose a possible cool haven. Close the curtains when they face the sun instead.

Sleeping when it’s hot is sometimes a struggle but rather than throwing off the bed covers have a thin sheet to cover you. This will help your body’s ability to control the temperature next to our skin. It’s important to keep exercising but in the heat it puts greater stress on the body. Reduce the intensity of your exercise and know your limits. It’s better to do a little than push yourself too hard. If you experience cramp, unusual fatigue, weakness, dizziness, these are signs of dehydration. Hydrate yourself and take care your physical and mental health to have enjoyable summer days!
