ActivGardens

The beekeeping season finishes at the end of September. If you would like to get involved in our community-run apiary, please register your interest and we will contact you in Spring when the bees start to fly again. We are looking for individuals who might want to join our volunteer team every Monday between 11:00 and 13:00 (except bank holidays) to help maintain our hives, apiary and bee garden. No experience is necessary, as all training is provided. We are able to provide individuals with a beekeeping suit for the first few weeks, after which they will be requested to purchase their own beekeeping tunic/suit/veil, depending upon personal preference. This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to become a beekeeper whether you simply want to help maintain the ecosystem within our natural environment, or are looking to keep bees yourself and would like some experience first.

ActivHives are also looking for individuals who would like to book either of our one off experience sessions. This can also include wildlife groups, scouts and guiding groups, school parties and individuals looking for a gift for a loved one. Get in touch for more information regarding group bookings. Our observation session is £5 pp and entails observing one of our weekly hive inspections. Our experience session is where we lend people a suit for the session, enabling “hands on” experience working alongside our experienced beekeepers. Both one off sessions include a vast amount of information about honey bees and beekeeping in general, delivered by either one of our key volunteers or our lead beekeeper. Honey will be available for sale later in the season.
