Wild About Nature is an exciting new project launching at ActivLives to involve the community in caring for nature and the environment.
The project will bring people together to grow and garden sustainably, maintain and develop areas for wildlife, and learn about beekeeping at our urban allotment community garden.
The project, funded for two years by the National Lottery Community Fund, will offer weekly volunteering and beekeeping sessions alongside nature-based activities both at the community garden and out in the community.
Volunteer for Nature – Mondays 10am to 12 noon
Beekeeping – Mondays 12.30pm to 2.30pm Apiary and Bee Garden page.

Wild About Nature will give local people regular contact with nature right on their doorstep to engender a sense of delight and responsibility for the natural world, foster an understanding of key issues, and develop important skills related to caring for the environment.
Designed to be diverse and inclusive, the project will involve a wide range of people and new groups in volunteering, learning and participation in practical activities, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to enhance their own gardens and green spaces in environmentally responsible ways which make space for wildlife.
By participating, people will improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, learn skills and gain confidence, and become an active part of their community.
Together we will improve local biodiversity by investigating what we have, researching what we could do improve it, and taking positive action – building a green wave from our community garden outwards into the local community.
Suffolk Nature Strategy shows that people living in deprived urban areas have low levels of engagement with county nature reserves. Our programme seeks to address this issue by providing opportunities for people to engage with the natural environment where they live.
ActivLives would like to thank National Lottery players for making this work possible.
