ActivLives are seeking a Project Officer for a new learning and skills programme, Grow Your Future, at its thriving community garden sites in Ipswich.

You will have a commitment to bringing the benefits of gardening and horticulture to a wide range of people, responding to the charity’s core themes of improving health and well-being, providing opportunities for new learning, and building local communities.

Excellent project management skills are key to the role, combined with a thorough knowledge of and practical competency in horticulture and nature conservation.

The aim of the project is to provide opportunities for people experiencing disadvantage, or trying to overcome challenging circumstances in their lives, to move on into further learning, training, volunteering or employment. Experience of developing people’s skills and confidence in a horticultural setting will be a distinct advantage.

ActivGardens is committed to environmentally friendly ways of growing and gardening, and experience of sustainable plant and food production combined with an understanding of issues affecting the environment is important.

You will combine sound practical skills with excellent organisational ability, with a commitment to drive the project through from start to finish.

You will be a “people person”, responding sensitively to the needs of a wide range of people. A good sense of humour and ability to remain calm and focused on a busy site is essential.
