After two very successful spring events the CRESS Community Market and Café will hold its seasonal summer market on FRIDAY 19th June. The spring markets have already raised over £200.00 for the ActivLives charity and the team are hoping for another bumper plant and produce harvest this month. Visitors will be able to pick up some bee friendly plants and ornamentals from the People’s Community and Chantry Walled gardens as well as bagging some fresh produce from the Community Garden and Maidenhall Allotment plotholders.

And for those that just want a cuppa and a piece of cake they will find a range of freshly baked treats in the community café. Last month there was Community Garden Rhubarb and Custard cake and allotment soup from the gardens and this month everyone is looking forward to fresh salad picked from a wide range of leaves and fresh herbs. But don’t worry, there will still be cake as well as plenty of stalls to browse! The Maidenhall Residents’ Association has a regular pitch selling cards and household items and there also other bric-a-brac and craft stalls.

Jo Whittle the CRESS Co-ordinator says ‘I am amazed at how successful the market and café have been already, with so much of the community getting behind us. I really feel like the market has become a hub for community spirit in the local area. It’s also been a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our plants and produce with help from our hardworking team of volunteers. ‘

Jo said there are opportunities for more people to get involved by taking up a pitch at the market for an introductory price OF £5.00 so that the market can continue to build. The markets will also be held on the following Fridays from 10am-12.30, 14th August and 11th September at the CRESS pavilion, Halifax Road, with Harvest Festival on Saturday 19 September when our Big Sunflower Competition will be judged – see website for details.
