The peoples community garden is 5 today (small)

It only feels like yesterday, but it’s been 5 years since The People’s Community Garden was first opened.

In those 5 years the garden has gone from a set-a-side piece of grassland, to a thriving community run allotment with the help of council and lottery funds (The People’s Millions Award 2007), kind donations and the endless growing team of volunteers, who are invaluable in the design, development and maintenance of the garden.

As well as being maintained and developed by the community, the garden has given a lot back too. It has been a facility for people to learn new skills, keep fit, grow local produce, make new friends and give people a place to relax and get away from their everyday routine.

To celebrate the success of the garden, and to thank the volunteers, there is a party annually at the garden where there is stalls, games, music, activities and workshops to get involved with. Last year the event was a huge success with nearly 500 people turning up throughout the day and we had a number of people come forward saying how much they enjoyed the day, especially as it’s family friendly with things for all ages!

You’d almost think we couldn’t do much better, but as it’s a big anniversary for us, we’re going to give it a shot!
