ActivHearts Ladies Hub is the latest project from ActivLives to improve the heart health of women, above the age of 55, we’re thrilled to say we have secured a £9,900 grant to support the hub.

The funds have been used to establish a weekly, 2-hour ActivHearts Ladies Hub on a Tuesday afternoon, with input and ideas from existing members. It offers a space for women to share advice and information on healthy hearts, discuss their own health and worries and learn about lifestyle advice, diet, exercise and wellbeing, plus lots more.

You can then expect a friendly group of ladies, a hot drink, something different and lots of chat. You will meet interesting people from local support and health agencies, and enjoy discussions on all sorts of topics, enjoy the company of likeminded ladies, two hours on a Tuesday afternoon well invested.

Women participating in the project will receive an initial health check, over a number of sessions, and they will be able to share and discuss their progress towards their own health goals. One of the biggest killers in Suffolk is heart disease, and up to a quarter of the county’s population may have high blood pressure, which can be a contributing factor.

The charity’s CEO, Julie Stokes, said: “It’s wonderful to receive another Healthy Heart Grant to enable us to start up this women’s heart health hub. Working with Heart Research UK has been great and we look forward to promoting an active lifestyle and the importance of community for everyone’s well-being.”

Helen Flaherty, head of health promotion and education at Heart Research UK, said: “We’re pleased to award another Healthy Heart Grant to ActivLives, after the success of the previous one. 23,000 women in the UK die of coronary heart disease every year, and therefore it’s important that groups, such as ActivLives, provide opportunities for people to learn about positive lifestyle changes they can make and share their experiences with other people.”
