Mothers Day is Blooming…

Mothers Day is Blooming…

Brighten up your mum’s special day with a spring display from The Chantry Walled Garden

We have wonderful pots and bulbs guaranteed to put a smile on the face of your mum when they bloom.

The tulip, narcissus, hyacinth, Allium and grape hyacinth bulbs were kindly supplied by Thompson & Morgan – just across the park from us- in support of our charity. After flowering, the bulbs can be planted out in your garden for you to enjoy.

If you would like to order a pot, they cost £5, please get in touch with Susannah on 07530 407302 on Tuesdays or Thursdays or email susannah@activlives.org.ukWe can leave your order by our gate at an allotted time for you to safely collect

ActivLives launches online plant and produce sales!

ActivLives launches online plant and produce sales!

Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers at ActivGardens have been busy – and safely – tending plants and vegetables to keep you healthy and in good spirits during these difficult times.

While our community gardens are closed to the public, you can visit our website www.activlives.org.uk/activgardens/online and browse our online catalogue before downloading an order form to send with your choices. We will then be in touch to arrange delivery.

  • Details of vegetable boxes will follow.

In buying from us, you are supporting our charity, which helps local people build stronger, healthier communities and enables people of all ages and abilities to live full and active lives.

  • For more information on our projects and activities, and what we are doing to keep our members connected during lockdown, please visit our website activlives.org.uk

We do our bit for the environment too – growing varieties which are bee and butterfly-friendly to attract pollinators to your garden, and using peat-free compost. You can return your pots, trays and labels to us to use again to cut down plastic wastage (we only accept our pots, so please don’t return any others as it becomes a waste issue for us).

All our plants are rown at ActivGardens – Chantry Walled Garden, in Chantry Park and the People’s Community Garden, on Maidenhall Allotments – as part of projects to nurture skills and build confidence. Please do come and visit when we are able to re-open.

For more information, please contact Fundraising and Development Manager Susannah Robirosa 07530 407302 or email susannah@activlives.org.uk.

Charity walled garden project blooms for Easter

Charity walled garden project blooms for Easter

Give yourself a treat over Easter time and take a stroll across Chantry Park on Thursday 11th April, to enjoy the walled garden from 10.30am till 2.30pm.

Choose an arrangement, hanging basket or special plant, or pick out a tray of bedding or seedlings to bring your borders and pots alive to celebrate spring.

There will be teas and homemade cakes in at Nursery Cottage, courtesy of our volunteers, and a chance to see the progress we have made at this beautiful heritage site.

If you can’t make it on the day, please note we are open every Tuesday and Thursday, 9.00am to 3.00pm, for sales.

Our Carry on Gardening! project for older people continues to run at the site, as well as opportunities to volunteer and learn about horticulture. Visits, bespoke sessions and placements can be organised by arrangement.

Please do get in touch to find out more or refer someone to our project.

All proceeds from sales are reinvested in our work to enable people of all ages and abilities to get active, learn skills, and become connected in their community.

Access to Chantry Walled Garden is via the path around the outside of the walled garden – turning right from the visitors’ car park. Please call ActivLives in advance to arrange disabled access 01473 345350. See www.activlives.org.uk/activgardens for details of our location with full instructions of how to find us.

The sessions will take place every Thursday afternoon from 8th March, 2pm to 3.30pm, at Chantry Walled Garden, Chantry Park, Ipswich IP2 0BS.

The site has facilities especially designed to enable older people to carry on gardening, in the lovely surroundings of an historic site. Most of the garden is wheelchair accessible and has raised beds and patio areas to sit and relax.

Gardening, crafts, flower arranging and other activities will be on offer to suit all abilities, led by our staff.

The sessions are part of an ActivLives project, ‘Branching Out – Growing Together’ , funded by a grant over two years from money raised by HealthIntend through the Health Lottery.

It aims to bring older people together to contribute their ideas, volunteer, and learn skills, meet other people and enjoy a chat and cuppa, and relax and enjoy the garden.

Please note – participants must attend with required level of support if necessary.

Please get in touch if you would like to take part – call ActivLives on 01473 345350 or email lesley@activlives.org.uk

Please use public car parks in Chantry Park. For disabled parking – please phone ahead.

We also need volunteers to help with these sessions – please get in touch if you would like to give a little of your time
